What Conventions May Look Like in 2021

It’s been more than a year since I attended a live convention. Where do we stand now? As more and more people get vaccinated against COVID, the prospects of and for physical conventions improves. If all goes well the US should hit herd immunity this summer.

I’ve gotten a few emails from conventions looking for vendors to work their events. This is a godsend for many artists and vendors, but personally I’m not considering any live events yet. But I have been thinking about what it might be like in the first few months of “The Return.”

April Thought of the Month

"Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is probably the reason why so few engage in it."

~ Henry Ford

It recently occurred to me that advances in technology have actually made it easier for us not to think. Once upon a time if you had a question, you went to the library, hit the encyclopedia, or read a newspaper. Now we can ask a little box and it tells us the answer. The price of speed though is the missed opportunity to learn even more while searching for the answer.

"Small deeds done are better than great deeds planned."

February Thought of the Month

"Focus on the princess, not the problem. You can't marry the princess without killing the dragon. So when you see the dragon, just remember: There's a princess on the other side."

~ Doug Weed

Everyone faces obstacles in life, and no one can make any progress without conquering them. Sometimes though, the problems we face seem so huge they paralyze us — analysis paralysis. We must remember to focus on the prizes on the other side. Then we can find the drive and the imagination to get through to them.

January Thought of the Month

"The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be."

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

New Year's is the time of resolutions to make changes for the better. All change begins within us and the way we see ourselves. Significant changes must be seen with the mind's eye before they can manifest. What will look back the next time you look in your internal mirror?

"Stay positive and happy. Work hard and don't give up hope. Be open to criticism and keep learning. Surround yourself with happy, warm and genuine people."

~ Tena Desae

When so much in our realities weighs on our spirits, we must seek ways to lighten the load. Do something every day that makes you happy. Focus on finding and nurturing every bright side you can. Be safe out there!

September Thought of the Month

"Work hard for what you want because it won't come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. If somebody puts you down or criticizes you, just keep on believing in yourself and turn it into something positive."

~ Leah LaBelle

August 2020

August Thought of the Month

"When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us."

~ Helen Keller

The world is in for very difficult times, so seek and hold on to all the joy and happiness you can until we pass through the tunnel to the light at the end.
