September Thought of the Month
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."
~ Andy Griffith
I was watering my porch plants the other day when someone pulling out of the parking lot across the street called out to say how beautiful they are. I smiled and thanked her. It wasn't a huge deal for her, only a few seconds of her time and consideration. But those few words really brightened my day.
People tend to think they have no power to affect the world, in part because we are bombarded daily with news of situations where we have little to no ability to make positive impacts. We are rarely encouraged or inspired to focus on how we can benefit the people who come into our personal spheres of influence. Many of us tend to forget that all it takes is a kind word or a thoughtful act to let someone know that the world isn't all dark shadows.
We've all had days when it's hard to find something to be happy about. We also all have the ability to bring a smile to someone's face and reset their mood in a positive way. So the next time you see someone overloaded with packages, hold the door for them. Offer your seat to someone standing on your next bus or train ride. Offer a compliment to a stranger. You just might be the one thing they need to turn a bad day around.
We each can add to the light the world needs. And all it takes is a few moments of our time.
